Chris Kee – Topic for site

I was getting nothing in class yesturday for ideas on what to build a site over. Yet when I woke up this morning I had a good idea come to mind. I am thinking about building an informative site about the process of planning a wedding. Not like every other site though, this one will involve the groom, and let him know what he can do during all of the steps, and how he can help, and involve himself. The reason this came to mind for me is because I am in the middle of planning a wedding too. My fiancee and I over Christmas break got a lot done and me as the groom, would love to be involved with everything, but do not know the whole process, and where exactly I can stick my foot in. So this site will inform the user the entire process of planning a wedding, but it will incorporate the groom into everything, so the groom has an easy understanding of whats going on, and how he can help.

Thoughts? (this is the first idea that I actually like)

  1. I actually like the idea. I went and looked up sites to see if anything out there actually had this idea, and there was like nothing. I think it’s a very interesting spin, and seeing as you can add your own personal experience to it, would be awesome. I could only find two sites with any sort of information geared towards the groom. Maybe they can be of help..

    site 1 – http://www.riwedding.com/wedding_checklist_groom.asp

    site 2 – http://www.groomsonline.com/

  2. Hey, I just got married, so I know the importance of a site like this one. I just had one thing going my way though, which was the fact that she planned out everything. I strongly feel that with 90% of the men and woman getting married the ceremony is all about the woman. It is her day, so the man needs to make sure he shaved and has his shoes polished. haha Well, where I am going with this is, that I think that some of the features of this site that could have really helped me would have been information on cheap but quality groomsman gifts, how to help the fiance with the planning, ideas on a fun but clean bachelor parties, etc… Also maybe put some information in there on how to prepare yourself for the married life. I have a ton of books about it if you need resources. Anyway, just throwing out idea. Great idea for your site. I look forward to seeing it come together.

  3. I know you like this idea because in this case your are the groom. Ok, I think is a really good idea too, but not just provide information, also what you can do is to give the user the opportunity to have some tools that he can use to keep track of the wedding. Probably like and only RSVP, vendors list with prices, an album to upload pictures of paces you are considering. I think it will be good for you to visit wedding pages (that are many like Martha Steward website) and translated to a men point of view.

Note: To came up with all this ideas I had some of my girlfriend’s help.

  4. I really like the idea. You can definitely do alot with it.

Is the site just going to have steps and tips for the groom and nothing else? I think some features like Joe mentioned would be pretty cool. It would really make the site come together.

  5. I think this is a really good idea for a site. I think so much of the time men ride shotgun to women when they get married. I know a lot of guys aren’t going to sit around drinking beer fantasizing about their perfect wedding, but I also think that they should be a part of it (or at least know ways to survive it).
