Designing for Server Side Technology

Proposal

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this site www.myhandbook.com is to allow the user to be able to find the right version of the bible that fits them best. They will be able to browse through bibles by age group, functionality, help books, and accessories. There will be samples from each version to give the reader an idea on what to expect if they make a purchase. There will be a functioning shopping cart that will allow the user to add, and remove items in their cart. The company that this site is for is based on giving the users the quickest, most efficient and educational way of finding the perfect bible for them. I am also planning of implementing a login and registration process to give the users a reason for return revenue.

Target Audience:

Since the site is built for selling bibles and accessories to bibles, the target audience will be mainly Christians, and possibly any others that are interested in purchasing a bible. The age group will most likely be anywhere from 18-50 years of age. This is considering college students that are engaged in bible study groups etc., and parents that purchase children’s bibles for their kids. The location of the users that will be using this site will be mainly in the United States, but purchases may be made in the U.S. and then taken elsewhere for charity work or missions. I am planning on making the design a neutral one because my target audience is not geared towards more males than females, or vice versa. The customers that visit the site are those wanting to learn how to find the right bible for them, and/or looking for accessories for their bibles. Such things like covers, bookmarks, help guides etc. The customers will also be able to see excerpts and reviews on the different versions available through the site to get an idea of what they are like. There will also be a contact page, for the customers to send any questions, comments, or concerns to the website.

Goals and Objectives:

Generate Revenue:

-To Selling bibles and accessories

-The ability to view excerpts from different version of the bible

-Contact the site for additional information

-Know your Goals

-Prepare your strategy

-Cannot Afford to Experiment

Obama knew his goals from the start, and therefore he knew what he had to build a strategy around in order to “win”. He did not have to think of different ideas and experiment with them, because he knew what he had to do based off of his goals. Like when you are running any business, or building any site for any business, you have to think about your goals and objectives and be decisive on what exactly you can affordo to do in order to achieve your goals that you have set. Also, when deciding on goals, be specific, and dont include everything about everything. Do what you can afford to in time.

In Obamas campaign he had ONE goal, to become president of the United States. Everything else in his life didnt matter, so he was able to organize what he did, and base how to achieve them off of that ONE goal.  Obama realized that it wasnt about him. When you run a business or create a site, it is NOT about YOU, its about the CONSUMER. Obama realized that and it made him more effective when considering the whole, which was “WE”. Therefore his key selling proposition was “Change WE can believe in.”

One strategy he used was to integrate the internet into everything he did. Another strategy he used was more specific into the first strategy. He became grassroots. He thought about the consumers level, about how specifically you can help the individual. And the last strategy was to create and maintain connections, big and small.

By using all of these aspects, Obama was able to pull ahead in the campaign and apeal to everyone by integrating the internet and social networking with every individual in everything he did, constantly. Thats what he thought about when running, and he executed those strategies to achieve his ONE goal, which was to become President, and he did just that.

Chris Kee – Impacts of Social Networking

•January 15, 2009 • 4 Comments

A lot of this article was a little over my head when trying to really take in every line and word. So after i tried reading it i went back and scanned through it and that seemed to work a little better for me because i already had an idea of what the article was about, and then could go back to key elements that stood out to me and try and make a little more sense of them.

Its odd how far social networking has come and how it has changed so many aspects when considering building a website. Like in the article where it was talking about the different leadership styles that have come and gone since the 80’s. Even though when students, or anyone may build a site, i know that the first thing that comes to me isnt social networking and how i can implement that into my site. But as we continue into the future, you begin to see that it is becoming more and more necessary that you do think about that, and you do consider how your information can be shared, or viewed by multiple users, and how they percieve it and how they can share your information, by networking with other people.

I also thought the flowcharts the article had about the different ways a business is set up in terms of hierachy, was interesting beacuse you really beign to see how CEO’s and all the workers in a business are really coming together more in a sense. If everyone only answered to one person, then no new viewpoints would come into play, and therefore no new changes can be thought up. But by allowing everyone to communicate ideas and talk to one another it really gives a business the oppurtunity to create ideas and grow. And for a business to take the step and really allow that, is a very good thing, and im glad that we are seeing more and more of that now. A business needs social networking in the workplace as they do online through the web. Both of these types of communication are essential in growing with todays rapid expansion and new ideas and technology.

All these changes in businesses open new ways that corporations will communicate, new visions inside these corporations, new and powerful organizations will sprout inside these corporations, new intelligence and input will lead to more innovative ideas, and then soon this concept of what social networking is and does for a business, will be a key factor in detwrmining employee excellence. Then in the end, might end up putting the company at an increased revenue, which is always a win!

Chris Kee – Topic for site

•January 14, 2009 • 5 Comments

I was getting nothing in class yesturday for ideas on what to build a site over. Yet when I woke up this morning I had a good idea come to mind. I am thinking about building an informative site about the process of planning a wedding. Not like every other site though, this one will involve the groom, and let him know what he can do during all of the steps, and how he can help, and involve himself. The reason this came to mind for me is because I am in the middle of planning a wedding too. My fiancee and I over Christmas break got a lot done and me as the groom, would love to be involved with everything, but do not know the whole process, and where exactly I can stick my foot in. So this site will inform the user the entire process of planning a wedding, but it will incorporate the groom into everything, so the groom has an easy understanding of whats going on, and how he can help.

Thoughts? (this is the first idea that I actually like)

Social Bookmarking – Digg.com

•July 29, 2008 • 4 Comments

Hello all! I think I know what you mean by a social bookmarking sight, so I went to digg.com, which I have heard about many times before, so its about time a became a member of it. I love what you can do on digg.com, I have already played around with it for about an hour and half now. I lost track of time till I realized I needed to come onto my blog and actually post what I had been up to!
Anyways, I hope I did the assignment right with the adding of the bookmarks, but I’m not totally sure if I did. I am going to add my digg profile link to this post and you guys can view my profile and let me know what you think! I definitely like this site and what you can do a lot better than say, an aggregator. I know they aren’t the same thing, but in terms of gathering information and sharing it, digg.com is very easy to use, more customizable, and fun!
Just now playing with it, I gathered just over 10 bookmarks (I think) just about various topics that interest me. I am planning on going back to Digg throughout the week and trying to find a few things that deal with social networking, e-learning, and softwares that may help with those sort of things, cause they are certainly becoming more and more popular, and soon possibly necessary. Anyways, take a look at my Digg profile and let me know what you think!

e-Learning WK 2 RSS and Aggregators

•July 22, 2008 • 4 Comments

My experience with RSS feeds and aggregators has not been as great as I was hoping, although, i have been using them throughout several quarters now and i must say that my knowledge and understand on how they work is growing a good deal. So i have decided to keep up with them and see how it goes. I do like how you can literally gather any kind of information from the entire web, and place it all in one place. The things that i am still struggling to understand fully are the way RSS feeds work and update. Its just kind of confusing to log onto my aggregator, and all of the sudden see all thsi information that is new, and im not quite sure where its coming from, like which category are the new RSS feeds coming from. Im not really sure if this is making sense, but to me its really confusing sometimes when i see RSS feeds, and dont know which one they belong to on my aggregator. But i am willing to keep it going. Because i like how organized blogs are and having access to all the ones that i find on my aggregator is a really nice thing to have.

For this class i do see how it will help in the long run. I found 10 on all sorts of different interests that i personally have. A few that had a lot of good information are the following:
